Speedrunning

I've been speedrunning Super Mario 64 the past couple of days just for fun. Might do some other games, too.

Yesterday was the first time I'd played Mario in years and I basically tried getting any 70 stars I could think of with no routes or strategies or anything. I set a loose goal at 3 hours (the world record is 49:42), and I got 2:56:20. So the goal was pretty accurate.

Today's run, I mostly followed a 70-star route used by most runners but I diverted from it on some of the more difficult stars I'd need practice on (mainly Rainbow Road and Tick Tock Clock). I didn't really use the shortcut tricks used within each star, but did follow the order of stars, more or less. I was aiming for sub-2:30:00 and got 2:06:27, so that was a significant improvement.

It's nice having a userboard where I can post stuff nobody else cares about <3

I was going to ask why you chose to go after 70 stars, but then I remembered that that's the minimum number needed to access Bowser in the Sky and, by extension, beat the game. Anyway, those are good times.

Well, I haven't done that, but it just took me about an hour to get the 100 Coins star in Tiny-Huge Island.
From the moment I saw him write those book reviews for the Shroom, I knew Tucayo would make a good librarian.

Yup. Or beat it legitimately, anyway. 70-star means no major glitching like backwards long-jumping past the 50 and 70 star doors.

Just did my third run with a goal of sub-1:50 and got 1:43:36. So at least I'm ahead of the 120-star world record now.

Could have easily sub-1:05'd on today's run but choked like a fucking champ on Bowser throws at the end.

Still a PB, but lots of mistakes.

Achieved a bump-worthy milestone of completing 120 star in less than 2 hours (1:58:31).

Next goal is 1:49.
