Common misconceptions about you that everyone still believes
« on: March 12, 2011, 11:21:08 PM »
The one that stands out with me is probably the misconception that I'm an audiophile. An audiophile isn't someone who simply adores music, they're people who obsess over sound quality (speakers, production, surround-sound, etc.), which can apply to a range of mediums outside just music. By all means, I intend to become an insufferable prick about sound quality someday, but at the moment I'm not an audiophile.

The only bit of the jargon I understood was the female plug stuff.

Oh, wait, you want us to talk about misconceptions too. Ohhhh, I get it now: I thought you were just setting the record straight about yourself. My bad.

When I was a tween/early teen, my classmates all thought I was a lesbian, but I was completely straight. Before that (i.e. Grade 5/6), they made up rumours that I was into bestiality (also untrue). Nowadays the only major misconception is that I'm innocent and nice, when in reality I just keep all my mean-spirited thoughts to myself and don't swear very often. People also think I'm a really diligent student, when in reality I only study right before exams, and never do the required reading or practice questions.

I wasn't serious about being a jerk about it; I'm just interested in music production, is all.

People seem to believe that I'm some harmless white kid at my School.

They haven't seen what happened to the last motherfucker who pissed me off.

I get put under the unsocialized stereotype since I'm homeschooled.

Someone's trying too hard to be cool. You don't need to impress us, mate; we're all losers here.

People seem to think that my entire life revolves around school and work, which consequently leads them to believe that I'm incapable of doing fun things. While I do enjoy school, I'm a terrible procrastinator (as are my brother and sister, but I'm likely the worst). As for the whole fun thing, people seem to be shocked when I say I love to play video games and do relatively "normal" things; I can remember back in eighth grade when someone seemed shocked when I said I watched TV.

Yeah, I wouldn't argue that I am cool, but I would argue against being a loser.

I'm not trying to be cool. I'm the bottom of the social ladder- I acknowledge and accept this. But I can fight. It's one of the only things I'm good at.

Hey, I'm a bucket of emotional issues. When I'm actually pushed beyond reason, I'm dangerous.

...but, ah, there's no way I can actually demonstrate that in Cyber Space...

People also think I'm a really diligent student,

Oh god me too. Almost everyone I know labors under the misconception that I get straight "A"s (Which is the highest grade possible in our educational system) and that I'm the top of my class. Even some of the teachers think so. This isn't true and hasn't been since the third grade.

It's kind of funny, because there used to be a significant group of people who believed I was either mentally retarded, or some kind of a crack addict. They have mostly shut up, though.
